From the Principal’s Desk….

Aoileann picked a great week for our Spring Clean as all the classes have been out and about in our local area picking up litter and leaving the places we have been cleaner than we found them.  Everything is easier when the sun is shining.

Lots of the classes have been taking advantage of this with Maths trails in Rang a hAon, sketching trips in Rang a Ceathair and Senior Infants have their regular outdoor learning.  This week Claudia, our Forest School leader was in on Wednesday helping us get ready for the term of work with Senior Infants in the forest and meeting parents to explain a little about what parents can expect.  A reminder to the senior infants parents that as the next term is going to be a short one, forest school will be starting in the first week back.  Rang a 3 were featured on News Today talking about their Junior Juries project while they filmed several weeks ago.

My office is slowly filling up as all the completed Write a Books start coming in.  It has been a hugely rewarding and at times frustrating experience for the children.  Ultimately as they overcame those frustrations and difficulties and completed their book I hope they will have found it to be rewarding.  Yesterday I was reading a story with a character that has appeared in their last four books and I reflected on how much development has happened in four years. I felt rewarded.  It is no mean feat reading editing, consulting, reediting, consulting and printing and publishing those books and huge credit needs to be given to the teachers who have been facilitating all this as well as all the regular things that happen in a week.  Once the busyness of this project settles hopefully they will feel rewarded too.

Rang a 6 and Rang a 5 have been busy working on their musical in conjunction with all this.  All the pieces and hard work are coming together for what promises to be ‘The Greatest Show’.  I stopped in the hall as they were singing their finale and they were brilliant and then yesterday in the classroom they were adding some movements to it- so it is going to be even better for the audiences.  Myself and the whole school cannot wait for Wednesday to see it.

Parents and family of Rang a 6 will get their turn on Thursday at 09:30.  If you haven't been through the school I would encourage you to visit and see the stage.  It is a celebration of what a community of people can do.  Parents, children and teachers all giving their best to make something special together.  Every day something new is getting added.

Today I am off to DCU working with the international schools who have been involved in the DCU Community of Practice. The focus has been on whether working as a community can benefit literacy learning and adaptation of IT resources to benefit children with literacy difficulties.

On Monday the much anticipated final between Japan and New Zealand saw New Zealand lifting the Mulholland Cup.  Huge congratulations to all involved particularly the organisers.

Next week Rang a 3 are off to St Patrick’s Cathedral.  All the extra curriculars have finished so there are no extra curriculars on.  Rang a 5 will be hosting the assembly on Friday as we all come together and hopefully the blue skies will continue.  A reminder that school will close at 12:00 on Friday for the end of the term!!  Where has the time gone?

A word of warning.  There are still cases of chicken pox in the school community please keep an eye for symptoms and don’t send your child to school if they have them.

Have a lovely weekend,

Paul

From the Lunch Bag….

The lunch bag are going to start delivering fresh fruit to the school from Monday 7th April next in addition to the regular options.  Children will have the option of an apple or a satsuma to choose from.  You do not need to do anything to avail of the fruit.  It will operate in a similar way to the way ‘bainne’ is distributed to the classes.
