From the Principal’s Desk….

If the posters all around haven’t reminded you already, please remember that the school will be closed next Friday 29th November for the general election as we are a polling station.  We have several parents past and present who are candidates and we wish them every success.  Please continue to ask questions from any politician arriving at your door about how they plan to prioritise education.

I added to the cost of the heating today by opening the doors from the hall onto the yard.  The choir are busily practising their songs for their visit to Leeson Park nursing home on the 6th December and I wanted to share the joy of the music with everyone who was coming through the gate.  Next week because of the election,  choir practice will be moved to Thursday at the same time.

Next Tuesday Rang 4 will be putting on a show for their parents in the hall at 09:15.  They have been writing their own script and I’m looking forward to seeing the results of this collaborative and fun project.  For all the other classes you will get a chance to see your child’s class performance on the 18th December please save that date in your calendar.

The student council have decided to run a whole school Kriskindle Card swap which is a lovely initiative.  The school council are also working on choosing which movie the whole school goes to see on Thursday the 19th December.  At the moment it looks like either Wild Robot or Paddington is going to come out on top.   A huge thanks to the Parent’s Association for making this possible.

If you haven’t already ordered your Christmas Cards today is the final day to do so.  They will arrive a little later than the main order but the Design a Card team have promised that they will arrive in time to be useful.

Michelle the school photographer has also asked that I let you know that she is doing her final print run and that the school photos will be delivered in the first week of December.

Last week Rang 2 were busy working on making ice cream,  maybe they are responsible for all this cold weather.

Senior Infants have wowed me with all their information about the Northern Lights and their artwork made it even more impressive.  Next week they are going to be leading our assembly so they are very busy indeed.

Rang a 6s organisational skills have really impressed me.  The Hockey World Cup is moving to the knockout stage and it has run very smoothly.  I’m looking forward to seeing if the level of organisation extends to the whole class as they set up their businesses for the school fair on the 8th December.

Have a lovely weekend everyone,

Paul

From the Parents’ Association…

With the cold weather this week, we all started to feel more than a bit festive!!  Which is perfect timing as the Christmas Fair is just around the corner!  We still have some volunteer opportunities, for a clean up crew after the fair, so if anyone has an hour to spare on the afternoon of Dec 8th, please contact us on xmasfair@rmds.ie and we will put you to work!

We also need prizes for the plus-size, super Christmas raffle that we are running.  Tickets will be available to the wider community and we want to make this the best raffle of RMDS history!  If anyone in the school has a prize to offer, please please get in touch.  We welcome all contributions, no matter the size or the obscurity.  If your workplace or home has anything at all to offer, then we will gratefully accept it.  Please do reach out, again via xmasfair@rmds.ie

We are also looking for the unloved decorations from your house.  If you have decent condition decorations that are spare to your household, the Christmas Fair would love them!  If you have anything, please contact us (Lorraine or Eimear) on xmasfair@rmds.ie or pa@rmds.ie and we will arrange to get them from you before the fair.

Also in preparation for the season, the Green Schools committee are running a Christmas Jumper recycling event.  Bring in your Christmas jumpers on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week (Nov 26th and 27th) they will all be available in yard on Thursday morning.  This is a free event.  All good condition adult or child sized jumpers welcome!

Huge shout out and THANK YOU to Sally Caulwell for designing a gorgeous flyer for the Christmas Tree sales this year.  Keep an eye out for her distinctive and pretty gorgeous tree design!

Thank you to everyone who attended the PA meeting this week.  Next meeting is on Wednesday December 11th at 8pm.  Again, all welcome.
