School News in Brief….
21st January 2022
Drop off and collection times are very busy for everyone around our school. We want to keep everyone safe so, as a reminder, please do not park your car in front of the school or on the double yellow lines at the side gate at these times.
Regarding Covid-19, as always, if a child has any new onset symptoms and feels unwell or seems off-form, do not send them to school and contact your GP for advice if necessary. This video from the DES highlights the needs for children to stay home if they are unwell.
In addition, do not send your child to school if they have:
A reminder that if a pupil is identified as being a close contact of a case of Covid-19, adherence to the current advice on the HSE website in relation to restricted movements and testing is required.

News from around the Classes…..
We have had a busy, fun and productive week in Junior Infants.
Our oak tree has buds on it.
We climbed the climbing frame.
It was snowing in our classroom this week!
We built dens, went fishing, played on the Titanic and hid in boxes.
We met our buddies in Linear Park.
We made pinch pots in Art.
We can’t wait for next week!

We’ve had lots of fun this week. For PE we had an obstacle course and we climbed the monkey bars. We went to Ranelagh Gardens. We all played together and had a great time. Aistear is all about the doctor's surgery.
It's been a busy week in Rang a hAon as we had lots of birthdays! This week it was Conn and Flynn's birthday as well as James' last week and Joni's next week. It was also Shane's birthday before we came back to school. To celebrate all the January birthdays, we took a trip to Ranelagh Gardens on Friday. In art this week, we learned about an artist called Andy Warhol and his style of art called Pop Art! We made our own colourful pop art and will hang them up next week. In maths, we finished off learning about money and some people in the class brought in old Irish coins and currencies from different countries. We liked looking at the differences and similarities between the money we use and the money used in different countries. We were very excited to have Simon back in school this week and loved practicing our GAA skills on Wednesday morning. We have also been learning all about littering and recycling and trying to make an effort in our own classroom to recycle as much as we can!
Dia dhaoibh go léir! This week we have been working hard on our newspaper reports for the annual newspaper from Rang 2. There are already very interesting articles pouring in from the hardworking reporters in Rang 2. Eilí shared some great pics of her trip to Thailand where she took care of elephants when she was only two. Wow!
We have also been learning about music of the Renaissance. Did you know ‘renaissance’ comes from the French word for rebirth?
We also learned about Florence Nightingale. She was the founder of modern nursing and was known as 'The Lady with the Lamp'. She taught her nurses about the importance of cleanliness and saved thousands of soldiers during the Crimean War.
In Gaeilge we continue to work on Caitheamh Aimire. Is breá linn bheith ag súgradh !

This week flew past as we have been so busy learning! Some highlights from this week were the completion of our pod posters.

Here are some pictures of our pods with our posters.
We started our History Projects in SESE lessons and have so far learnt how to take notes without copying the information we read. We are excited about showing you these in the next two weeks.
We have learnt about the weather in Gaeilge and can describe lots of different weather types.
In English we are learning about setting descriptions and wrote a little setting description about the forest.
In maths we are learning about money and working through some problems as if we were shopping!
We talked a lot about playing fairly in the yard and what to do if things are not fair. We have also organised a football tournament in order to get more people involved in playing football on our football days. Some people said they would like to play but do not feel comfortable so hopefully this will help.
We tried a shaking meditation and we all loved it! Here is a picture of us doing it. :)
This week we have been working on our anti-bullying assembly by writing poems and making handprints by painting our hands with lots of colours. We have got new yard spaces while we cannot go to Mount Pleasant. We were very excited to get new yard equipment like two new footballs, a rugby ball, a tennis ball and a frisbee. We also entered an idea for the new school curriculum in NEWS TODAY RTE. We have been doing length in maths, caitheamh aimsire in Gaeilge and a project on a famous irish person in English class. Cén caitheamh aimsire is fearr leat?

On Monday we did our Irish “Go tobann!” (Suddenly!) posters which were lots of fun and we enjoyed it. We started Division 2 in maths which was all about dividing decimals using long division mostly. For English we read our “Healthy Pita Pizza” recipe.
For art, on Friday last week, we wrote a phrase from the 1921 Treaty and dyed the page using tea, which made them look 100 years old. They are hanging outside our classroom now. On Tuesday we did some gymnastics in the hall for yard time as we couldn’t use Mt Pleasant. We are having big yard at a different time this week too because of this. The line for the box was very long as it was very fun! :)
We started our Stay Safe programme in class this week. We did a walking debate on our Stay Safe program about what we thought was safe or not. On Thursday we did a fun music activity where we guessed the movie that the song our teacher was playing from. We did more gymnastics for PE and it was very fun. On Wednesday we did more on our “Healthy Pita Pizzas” story and made our own recipes and added a magic twist to them. We have had a busy week once again!
We had a busy and fun week in Rang a Sé this week.
Last Friday, we created our own versions of Van Gogh's ‘Starry Night’.
We started Fractions 2 in maths and are having our assessment on Friday.
In English this week we have been working on poetry and have studied a poem by Emily Dickinson called ‘Hope is the Thing with Feathers' and it was very interesting. Then we started writing our own animal/feelings poems. We painted pictures of the animals we wrote our poems about.
We have been studying the aimsir caite in Irish this week and we are getting along well.
On Tuesday we did gymnastics for P.E. We used the climbing frame, box jump and balance beam and it was great fun.
On Wednesday we started our study on Martin Luther King. He is very interesting and we have been looking a lot at his quotes. Martin Luther King Day was Monday the 17th of January this year.
On Friday we met our buddies in the park and worked on our throwing and catching skills with them. It was great fun and they were great throwers and catchers.
