Thank you to everyone for participating so well in this week’s Bike Week initiative. It was amazing to see the bike racks so busy so let’s keep it up well beyond this week!
A reminder once again that it is essential that pupils do not attend school if displaying any symptoms of Covid-19. In addition, do not send your child to school if they have:
If your child is going for Covid testing we would appreciate if you could please let the school know, as so many of you have been doing. Thank you for all your co-operation with this!
I hope you enjoy our news round up from the week! It will be give you a flavour of how busy the children have been all week learning, but having fun in the process.

Well done to everyone who participated in Bike Week so far this week. We are really impressed with the number of children who cycled to school each day. Remember, Bike Week runs until Sunday so keep up the great cycling and we’ll record the distances clocked up again on Monday.

Our PA AGM will be held via Zoom on Tuesday, 28th September @ 8 p.m. If you are interested in attending please email pa@rmds.ie and we will send you on all the log in details. All parents are welcome so please do come along and see what we’re about! On the night we'll select our new committee and start planning for the year ahead. We're still seeking a new chair/chairs, so give us a shout if you're interested or if you'd like to find out more!

News from around the Classes….. Junior Infants

Senior Infants
We have been working really hard in Senior Infants this week. We have been revising all our Jolly Phonics sounds. We have also started learning a new song called ‘Three Little Fishies’ and we love it! We’ve enjoyed writing on our whiteboards this week and playing games as Gaeilge like ‘Cé hé seo?’ We have had lots of fun in Aistear too.
Rang 1
We've had another busy week in Rang a hAon and the class have all been working really hard. This week we have been learning about how bicycles work and cycling to school for National Bike Week. We've been doing lots of great playing in the yard using the skipping ropes and some of the class have set up a very successful shop and café in the green area.

We started the Magic Box this week and we did GAA with Simon. We did painting in art and had lots of fun movement breaks.
Rang 2
Hi everyone!
We had another great week in Rang 2. We are settling in to work more and more and doing very well. We have started using the computers to practice using ‘Spellings for Me’. It was very different but Rang 2 were great and are now ready to learn some spellings. Well done!
We are also going out to read in pods on the bean bag. This is our chance to relax with a book and have some quiet time.
We also did very interesting portraits last week as you can see. There are definitely many budding artists in this class.
Finally in Gaeilge we are learning about the parts of the body and have learned a great song called Ceann, Cluas, Srón, Béal agus Smig. Maith sibh Rang 2!

Rang 3
In English this week we finished the story of The Junkyard Wonders and retold the story picking out the key moments. We then wrote a recount. We also started a new class novel called The evil Hairdo. We have lots of questions about it so far, it seems to be a funny story.
In Maths we have been learning about Place Value of three digit numbers. We were ordering numbers and played games to see if we could find the highest numbers created in the class.
In Gaeilge we have started Bua na cainte and were asking and answering questions about ourselves.
In history we are learning about the legends of Fionn and the Fianna and the story of the Salmon of Knowledge. Here are some of our freeze frames from a drama lesson about the story.
In art we created colour wheels and made eyes from them.
We have all settled in really well and are working our way to our reward for getting all our routines. So far we have managed to line up really well in a short space of time.
Rang 4
In our first P.E. lesson we practiced the build up to start a race, and for our warm up we played ‘Over Under’.
We went over to Dartmouth Square and we did an Autumn scavenger hunt.
We have been learning about the Vikings, so in art we drew Viking longboats, but instead of the traditional dragon heads we had the option to do any animal.
This week we started our class novel called ‘Seven Spiders Spinning’. Each one of us has our own book so we can read along with Ms. Delaney.
We have started ‘Spellings for Me’. We did our mastered word tests on the chrome books. In Gaeilge we learnt a song about a boy who loves a girl called Alanna.
In maths we have been studying about place value using little blocks to represent units. We wrote about what we think might have happened to Lars Larson on his journey home from Siberia.
Ms. Delaney taught us a new movement break game called ‘Nations’.
In Core Curriculum we have been learning about Judaism. For example Jews only worship one god and they have to follow 613 laws!
Rang 5
This week is National Bike Week. On Thursday everyone in Rang a Cúig tried to cycle into school if we could. On other days other classes cycled into school. We also recorded how far we cycled each day - so far Rang a Cúig have cycled over 200 km.
For art last Friday our class made ‘Behind the Mask’ pictures - you can see these below in our images. The art was folded so that you could flip it in and out so it looked like we were taking the mask ‘on’ and ‘off’. On the side where the mask is ‘off’ we wrote and decorated some of our many positive personality traits. This week we did shape art. You can also see this below. We cut out shapes from card and then we held the shape down on another piece of card and painted over it, being careful not to move the shape. We were left with lovely colourful pictures with a white shape in the centre.
This week in maths we worked on Operations. We practiced adding and subtracting big numbers. In P.E. we practised different types of throwing. Then we played a few games of dodgeball to practice our new found skills. P.E was really fun this week and we got some extra P.E. time as a reward for our great work so far in Rang a Cúig.
In English this week we worked on recount writing. We read an extract from Anne Frank’s Diary as it is an example of a recount piece. We read about what Anne and her family did before they left to go into hiding. In Core Curriculum we learned about Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur - these are festivals in the Jewish faith. Yom Kippur was this week.
In history we learned about the story of Diarmuid and Gráinne. In music we practised our body percussion rainstorm from last week and we composed our own body percussion pieces based on weather. Each group performed theirs for the class. We have had a fantastic week in Rang a Cúig! Thank you for reading!

Rang 6
Another great week in Rang a Sé!
We've started on the maths topic of addition and subtraction and we’re doing very well! We also did very well in our maths test last Friday!
As well as our maths, on Friday we made paper plate willow designs as we are learning about ancient China in history and geography. We are all enjoying learning about ancient Chinese culture, art, and the geography of the country.
In English this week we've been learning about recount writing and we are writing some made-up news articles to practice writing a recount piece.
But it's not just English and maths we've been working hard on, we are also doing great in our Gaeilge frasaí agus gramadach! We’re learning new phrases and learning all about how to speak and write in the present tense.
This week we found out the names of our buddies and we made videos for them introducing ourselves, we are so excited!
We had a really competitive game of Dodgeball in PE as we worked on our throwing and catching skills. The game lasted nearly half an hour as neither team could get everyone out. It was so much fun!
We have settled into Rang a Sé very well, and are excited for the year ahead of us! Slán!
