School News in Brief….
From the Principal’s Desk….
Today has been a very eventful day. We have had volunteers in Rang 3,4,5, agus 6 for the Junior Achievement programme which has created a great buzz of excitement around the school. Maria Dillon was the lead organiser and deserves the credit for a great day.
As the weather has started to reflect the season it is going to become more important to bring in coats. The lost property box is an ever growing beast so please write your child’s name on the tag in permanent marker.
We are halfway through the parent teacher meetings and so far the feedback has been very positive. Thank you all for giving of your time to attend these meetings. We hope that you are finding them as useful as we are.
Next week’s meeting are as follows:
Monday, 21st & Tuesday, 22nd November - Junior Infants and Rang 6
Thursday, 24th & Friday, 25th November - Senior Infants and Rang 3

Green Schools Tips LEGO and Sustainability
Although some LEGO pieces are made
from plant-based, bio-polyethylene, the
great majority of pieces are still made
from petrochemical derived plastics. And
LEGO don't currently use recycled plastics
in making their pieces.
Their ambition is to make their pieces from
sustainable sources from 2030, but only if
a suitable material is developed by then.
LEGO’s argument is that they make a durable, long lasting toy but this is a double-edged sword. The ABS plastic that the most of the pieces is very persistent environmentally.
In 1997 a shipping container with 5 million LEGO pieces went overboard off the coast of Cornwall. Since then pieces have been washing up on the surrounding beaches and degrading into microplastics. A 2020 study found that it would take over 1,000 years for the castaway pieces to degrade fully!
As LEGO is expensive, it is not a toy that is often thrown away. But over the years, the average LEGO piece has got smaller and smaller and so more easily lost or likely to end up in a vacuum cleaner. And then on to landfill or the ocean.
So as LEGO in its currently form is unsustainable, it falls on the consumer to manage as best they can.

From the Wellbeing Committee….
The wellbeing committee have been looking at developing a growth mindset, expect to hear more about this in the coming weeks. It is a skill which will be useful for each and every one of us. Something as small as the word yet can make a big difference. I am not good at _____ yet. Try it and see if it helps you and your child.
From the Student Council….
Comhairle na nÓg 15 Nov 2022
On Tuesday, the Co-Chairs of our Student Council, Julian and Rebecca, represented our school at an event called Comhairle na nÓg.
Let's hear a little bit about how they got on…..
Comhairle na nÓg is a group of kids between the ages of 12 to 17 who are trying to get their voices heard.
There were about 80 children from different schools and you were put at a table with a few of the kids and one person who is already a part of Comhairle na nÓg. We talked about the topic that they learnt about this year. We also got to pick the topic to learn about for next year. The topics we chose from were gender equality, education and cost of living. We did a vote and the
topic we will be learning and working on this year is education! We were also invited to join Comhairle na nÓg so let’s just hope we get in! Near the end we all did a bit of dancing, it was fun! (Plus the food was good and you got free stuff at the end!!!)
