BEHAVIOUR
Positive behaviour is praised.
Class Charter is visible in the classroom Verbal reminders, loss of playtime, comment in yard book, note or phone call home etc. It is important to acknowledge that most children are very well behaved most of the time.
Parent/ teacher regular contact
A copy of the school behavioural policy can be gotten in the office or found on the school website.
HOMEWORK
Weekly homework- una
Voted unanimously for weekly homework
Oral homework is just as important.
Monday- homework is given out.
Friday- homework is collected.
Homework folders in class everyday.
PLAYTIME AND LUNCHES
A healthy eating policy is adhered to in RMDS with the addition of no nuts.
Time to eat before play.
play on the downstairs yard for for both breaks daily.
There are designated quiet areas at play times.
ENGLISH
Reading:
The Oxford Reading Tree- Listen to reading as regularly as possible.
Parent’s reading
Oral language:
Class discussion, storytelling, drama, debate and many other methods.
Writing:
Variety of different genres will be
continued in Rang a Dó
Go with the Flow” cursive writing format.
GAEILGE
Try to use ‘cúpla focal’ every day.
Informal gaeilge regularly used
Music, drama,and interactive games Bua na cainte programme.
Move to formal reading and writing in Irish.
MATHS:
Operation maths
Concrete materials and Games. Encourage use of Maths in everyday life.
Number, Money and Time continue to be important areas this year.
P.E.- Swimming
Art takes place on Wednesday afternoons Music; We are using the CEOL programme.
CORE CURRICULUM & SPHE
Cross curricular
Judaism and Islam while continuing to explore the themes of Myself and Others, the Environment.
Self-identity, how to take care of our bodies, our local and school communities.
Daily Mindfulness in class
PARENT/TEACHER CONTACT
Individual parent/teacher meetings are in November.
If there is a need to meet during the year, I will arrange a mutually convenient time before or after school hours.
Incidental, less sensitive issues can be dealt with between 8.30am and 8.50 am.
Please let me know if your child is being collected by someone else after school
SCHOOL TRIPS AND HELPING OUT!
You will receive an email before the class goes on a trip to inform you of dates and times. If you are available for trips, please let me know.
Hugh Lane Gallery trip September 30th. You will receive information about this.
FOREST SCHOOL
Forest school will start in January for Rang a Dó giving the class a wonderful opportunity to learn in an outdoor setting.
Building on Senior Infants experience.
