SCHOOL NEWS in Brief…..

Update on the linear park
As you can see, planting has begun in the park and the wall painting is completed. Six new trees went in yesterday and the refurbished gates are due back shortly. The final part of the design is the play feature, designed especially for the park by TTT using the ideas of the children here in RMDS. We are also grateful to parents past and present who have worked on a voluntary basis to ensure the compliance of the design with play standards etc. We are also delighted to say that it will be constructed, at cost, again through the generosity of a parent in the school.
But, we are still short of our funding target to give the go ahead for this element of the project.
At present we are seeking funding outside the school community. We still need about €5,000, so if you have any suggestions or contacts or ideas in that regard, please email me or chat to me at the gate. This is a very important element for the children, not just those coming to school here in RMDS, but for the local community as well. We would love to be in a position to deliver this by the Summer.
The Student Council are going to encourage the children in the school to fundraise for this aspect of the project over the next few weeks at home – for example, one group of children held a bake sale last weekend and raised €73.
The photo shows our outdoor yoga last Friday on the new oval in the park – thanks to Louise and Tom and Conor and all the parents who joined us on the day to celebrate Earth Day.

From The PA
1916 Coach Tour
The PA were delighted to sponsor the 1916 Bus tour for 5th & 6th classes yesterday morning. The Dualway bus collected the children from the school at 09h30 and had them back 3 hours later. They covered all of the significant sites of the 1916 rising, and Gerry their tour guide also told them of how life in general was around that time. The tour is most suitable for children of this age and makes for a great family day out, for more information go to www.1916easterrisingcoachtour.ie.
The 2016 RMDS Red Carpet Party
We are very fortunate in RMDS to have some serious heavy hitters in the TV/Film industry among the parent body. We are even luckier that these brilliantly talented parents have agreed to showcase their elements of their award winning projects in the form of a Red Carpet Night, for the rest of the parent body to enjoy. This is a one off event - and a must not miss night!!!
The Red Carpet event will feature exclusive screenings and insights from parent stars of the silver screen, including, RICHARD CHANEY , STUART CAROLAN, TOM CONROY, LANCE DALY, MAYA DERRINGTON, JUANGUS DINSMORE, ED GUINEY, MAIRE KEARNEY, BILLY McGRATH, KIERON J WALSH & NICK KELLY.

UPDATE ON CAMPAIGN FOR AN EDUCATE TOGETHER SECOND LEVEL
SCHOOL IN DUBLIN SOUTH CITY AREA
The Minister for Education has formally opened the process for school patron bodies to apply for the patronage of the new Second Level school to open in the Dublin South city area in September 2018. The deadline for receipt of applications from school patron bodies is now Wednesday 8 June 2016 and a decision will be made on the patronage by September 2016.
Educate Together will apply for the patronage of this school. It is likely that other school patrons will also apply. As you know, the Department of Education will make its decision on who will run this new school based on the number of Expressions of Interest that each school patron body has.
In order for the new school to be an Educate Together school it is essential that as many parents as possible in the local area have completed an online Expression of Interest form, before the deadline of 8 June. So please do the following:
1) Sign up on line at http://www.educatetogether.ie/dublin-south-city-2L-2018
2) Like our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/ET2LDublinSouthCity/
3) Tell your friends and neighbours about the school campaign and get them to sign up.
This is a really exciting opportunity to have an Educate Together Second Level School in our local area. We have six weeks to get as many children signed up as possible and to ensure it happens. An Educate Together Second Level school will be co-educational, multi- denominational, open to everyone and non fee paying, let's make it happen!
