From the Principal’s Desk….

The Write a Books seem to be top of almost everyone’s mind at the moment as all the children’s creative juices are flowing into this project.  I have enjoyed seeing the illustrations starting to appear when I visit the classrooms as some of the children get ready for their completed book.  Rang a 4 agus Rang a 5 took a break from the books to practice coding with Ozge and Natalia from Microsoft on Wednesday.

The President of the INTO Carmel Browne called to visit the school on Tuesday and was very impressed with the books the children were writing and that the whole school took part.  She asked the question of the classes she visited about what made RMDS special.  It was heartwarming to hear the children talk about how we are kind, we look out for each other and we celebrate everyone’s success.  Rang a 6 were so busy telling her all about their musical that they missed a chunk of their break time.  Carmel is a very busy woman especially as she approaches the end of her term as President but the singing in rang a 6 impressed her so much  that she has pencilled in a return visit to see the full show.  The fact that we have so many children who are happy to sing solos is in no small part due to the fact that Therese and Aoileann have fostered such a love for singing with the choir on Friday.

Last week I mentioned the run kids run event and also the Cumann na mBunscol athletics event and it seems to have caught the children’s imagination. Every break I see little groups practicing their running.  Rang a 5 have begun their work on athletics and are looking to build up their stamina for both sprinting and distance running.

Rang a 2s last week in the forest is next week.  They may be the last ever rang a 2 to visit the forest as we have begun discussions about other classes that might benefit from Forest School.  Watch this space and if you do have an opinion please let me know.

Next Friday Rang a 6 will be taking a break from all the rehearsals, the backstage planning and the general busyness of Rang a 6 to visit Glasnevin Cemetery.  The rest of the school will be hoping that we have another week of this lovely weather so that we can go out and enjoy it as we start getting our running legs working.

Have a lovely weekend,

Paul

From the BoM….

Thank you to everyone who has been able to contribute to the Voluntary Contributions which help fund the work of the school.  If you haven’t but would like to; recurring payments can be made using this link and once off contributions can be made using this link.

From the Pa….

Run Kids Run will be launching next week.  As well as getting our children active and out in the air, we will be looking to raise money for the development of the roof garden space.  A final design hasn't been made for the roof garden but preliminary discussions have indicated that we would need somewhere between 20 and 40k to transform the space.  The initial 5k from Run Kids Run is a great start and we’d love to see if we can at least match that.   So if you have any ideas for fundraising or for the roof garden space please get in touch.

From the Lunch Bag….

We’re delighted to share some exciting updates to our menu, reflecting valuable feedback from parents, school staff, and students. Our team has been working hard to ensure these changes meet the nutritional guidelines while also delivering more of the variety and options that children will enjoy as we move into the summer.

Here's what’s coming over the next few weeks:

Chicken Casserole

Vegetable & Lentils

Broccoli Bake

Mexican Wrap

BBQ Hot Potato

Chicken Paella

Thank you for your patience as we continue to perfect our school lunch service, and remember, we’re always here to answer any questions you may have about these changes.

Healthy Eating...

On other lunch related news.  Just a reminder that we have a healthy eating policy in the school.  We don’t eat crisps, biscuits or sweet snacks except on very rare occasions.  The children can get quite annoyed when they see someone with snacks that they consider to be a treat.
