From the Principal’s Desk….

24th January 2025

I hope that you have all survived the storm unscathed.  The school is unaffected so we will be looking forward to seeing you all on Monday morning.  The same cannot be said for one of the trees in Linear Park.  Listening to the stories of all the damage around the country the decision to close the schools today was fully justified.

I haven’t any reports of damage in Iveagh gardens so hopefully Forest School will be unaffected this week.  Regardless, there will be some form of forest school.  A couple of years ago when our children identified a sick tree which needed to be felled the children weren’t able to use their normal space.  The children and Claudia are a resourceful bunch, they simply found a solution and used the cut off branches to build amazing dens.

There was so much excitement from both groups when the children from Rang a 2 came back to school.  It highlights the benefits of having forest school and I am so grateful to all of you who contribute to the school to allow us to afford the additional costs associated with having Forest school.

Next week Rang a 5 are off to the National Gallery to see the Turner exhibition.  Given Turner’s love of a storm this seems like a good week to visit.

We are also looking forward to our assembly on Friday where Rang a 1 will be showing us what they have been learning about how to protect themselves and their friends if someone tries to bully them and equally important how to help the person who is bullying.

Our Junior Infant parent teacher meetings are coming up soon on the 6th and 7th of February.  This is our first year hosting them in February and we will be interested in hearing how you feel about the change.

Thank you to all of you who donated to our cinema day fundraiser.  €630 was donated to St Vincent de Paul and €630 to the Irish Red Cross this week.

Last week myself and Barbara were struggling to include an information leaflet from The Lunch Bag about the contents of the lunch.  This would have been very helpful for the PA meeting which was on earlier this week.  I eventually managed to resize it and it is attached with this newsletter.  It is worth a read.

Have a lovely weekend everyone and if there is a clear sky look up, the planets are lining up which happens once in a 100 years.

Paul
